Liza Lou and the Yeller Belly Swamp
Wonderful little book with fantastic illustrations.....Mercer Mayer books are all just grand, but this one is a favorite in our family. My now 35-year-old daughter checked this out weekly from our local library when she was preschool age until we finally bought her a copy of her own. She still has it, but we recently purchased a new one for her little girl who just turned four years old, along with a toy possum (an important character in the book) for her birthday, and she was fascinated and abandoned the remainder of her birthday gifts to sit and look through every page. It's a unique and heart-warming classic for any child, raised in the south or not, black or white. And it's a story parents will not tire of reading over and over.
