The life of a dreamy poet.
The writer weaves a disturbing story of the youthful life of Baudelaire in Paris as he struggles to become independent from family. The author describes Baudelaire and his friends as being substance abusers. Baudelaire chose escapism. His mythic and dreamy poetry created from illusions he captured while high has won him one of the most respected places in French literature. He is characterized as depressed due to feelings of disregard towards his family, who do not wish to give him control of the estate his father left for him. His character seems split between a love for family and a discuss for the injustice.
