A unique, highly flexible drum synthesizer.
The Pearl SC-40’s unusual architecture can make very realistic, or very unusual, percussion sounds. Sounds are based on one of 32 harmonically complex waveforms which can be processed with snappy pitch and amplitude envelopes, pitch modulated and mixed with white noise. The sound is then routed through two complex band pass filters.
Users are able to store 8 drum kits with 8 sounds each.
Drum sounds can be triggered by MIDI, but dense note streams can cause sloppy timing, and some notes may not be triggered (this is not uncommon with MIDI instruments from the early 1980s). Better results can be had with the analog trigger inputs. These 8 inputs are designed to be triggered with pads, but I have had good results using 8 line outputs from my MOTU 828mkII. The SC-40 would pair very well with a trigger sequencer such as the Arturia Beatstep Pro.
The user interface is very poorly designed. Programming sounds requires significant time moving the “cursor” between parameters and tediously adjusting them using only up/down buttons. The results are worth it though, because you can create sounds like nothing else on the planet!
Important note for buyers: The SC-40 looks similar to the Pearl DRX-1, also known as the DRUM-X. The DRX-1/DRUM-X is a great-sounding drum synthesizer in its own right, but employs a more common analog synthesis method.

A must-have for the hardcore Kraftwerk fan!
Maybe you've been fortunate enough to see one of the 3D concerts performed by Kraftwerk across the globe over the past five years.
This Blu-Ray box set contains live footage of all 220 minutes of Die Mensch Maschine's current repertoire in glorious 3D (2D compatible) on 2 discs. As if that wasn't awesome enough, there is a second set of 2 discs with just the 3D projection material (and the same music as the other 2 discs).
The visual content is crisp and clear, and the audio is very good.
The package also includes a large, full-colour picture book that would be right at home on a techno-pop fanatic's coffee table.
