24 KOH-I-NOOR Hardtmuth Progresso Woodless Colour Art Pencils - NEW
    Nov 29, 2017
    Great to work with
I bought my first Progressos to see how they worked over a hard pastel base. They were so great that I had to buy more. They are high pigmented, creamy, blend well, and covered the pastel beautifully. I have since bought two more 24 sets. What I found is that not all Progessos are the same. My first, bought individually at an art store, were water resistant and the color names were printed on the side. The other sets were less water resistant which is important to me because I also use aquarell pencils on a painting. One set had the color names printed on the pencil and the other only had the color numbers. All pencils were equal in pigment and softness. I also have a set of Ashleigh Nicole woodless pencils which complements the color range of the Progressos and which have the same qualities as the Progressos. I am not certain of the lightfastness of the Ashleigh Nicole pencils, but this is not a real issue for me. Anything I want to protect I spray with a light-fast fixative. Both brands have a nice feel and their being wood-less gives them a more flexible use.
ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T 16GB, 10.1in Black bundle (with case)

    Really nice all-purpose tablet.
I bought a TF300T for my mother-in-law for a reader/photo viewer. I liked it so much I had to have one of my own. This is relevant because on getting my mother-in-law's back, I noticed that not all Transformers are equal, at least as used purchases. The screen response is different on my two tablets, as well as some of the layout. However, it boils down to what I got used to, rather than some objective criterion. I use the tablet mostly as an e-Book reader, with Kindle, Nook and Google apps. I also use it for videos. The screen clarity is superb and navigation easy. The battery holds a charge well. Downloads are easy, although, as I found normal for android browsers, sometimes they can be slow on the satellite system we have for internet. Normally, I do not use the keyboard. But sometimes I have found it to be rather sensitive to any pressure on the palm rest, causing the curser to jump to weird places in my documents. In Windows OS, there are ways of setting the sensitivity to avoid this, but I have not found the process for the fix in the Android system. Since I do not use the keyboard that much, it isn't really an issue for me. However, if a person plans to use this table as a word processor, I would suggest investigating how to set keyboard sensitivity prior to committing to the purchase, just in case... I also suggest a case, because a little fall can really hurt a bare tablet. Replacing the screen digitizer is something for a professional or very advanced user. For comparisons, I find the battery life is better and viewing easier than the Nexus 7 android tablet. Compared with an iPad I the screen resolution and battery life are slightly inferior, but the trade-off is not being tethered to Apple. In short, I recommend this tablet, but a used one may come with its own quirks, so be prepared to accept them.
Canon PIXMA Pro9000 MARK II Professional Inkjet Photo Printer
    Dec 27, 2019
    A printer for art projects
I bought this printer for the wide format. When I tried the printer I found it to a lot more than just a wide format machine. It is flexible for feeding all sizes of media up to 12 X18, and even able to feed stiff poster board. The fidelity to color, even on non-photo paper blew me away. The bonus for me is the type of cartridges which are the same as my other printer and which are refillable. You have to be very careful not to let the cartridges run out of ink. The cooling on the print head is based on the liquid from the cartridges. If the cartridge ink runs dry, the print head or control board can burn up next time you turn the printer on. This printer is no longer made by Canon, so getting a new manufacturer's print head or control board is impossible, but the print head is on eBay. The manufacturer says the Pixma Pro 100 is the replacement model.
