Great Socket 478 Cooler
Finding a solid cooler for Intel Socket 478 is getting a tad difficult. Rather than try to find some complete aftermarket kit, you could just go for the best Intel stock cooler for the platform. This is it. It has a large copper slug in the middle and the overall weight tells you that it can dissipate heat thoroughly.
Mine is cooling a Prescott 3.4 Ghz Pentium 4, one of the hotest chips for the 478 platform (if not the hottest) and this cooler does the job. Keep in mind that I removed the stock thermal paste/pad and used Arctic Silver 5. If you look at the design, you can see that it is essentially the same as a LGA 775 cooler, but shaped a bit differently and using the 478 mounting system. I recommend this product if you want a better cooler for your old 478 computer.

Best stock LGA 775 cooler
The first thing you notice about this cooler is the weight. Compared to other stock Intel coolers (LGA 775 or otherwise), it is a heavy beast. Why? The copper slug is much thicker both at the base and running up the inside of the aluminum. This makes the cooler great at pulling away heat. I have purchased this cooler for both an Intel Pentium 4 670 and a Core 2 Quad q9650. It does a very good job with these CPUs. It should, since it was designed to tame the mighty Extreme Edition 965 which is a very hot CPU.
If you need a low profile cooler for an LGA 775 board or just like the look of a stock cooler, I highly recommend this product. It will do the job very well. I just wish that Intel used the same mounting holes so you could put this cooler on more modern sockets. Current generation stock coolers lack any copper and are half the height (which means half the aluminum). Great cooler and not loud in the slightest, especially if your motherboard can control the fan speed.

Perfect sealed conduction and it worked ...
Perfect sealed conduction and it worked great. I was even able to crossfire it with my A10-7890k.
