"Small, but highly detailed"
1 of 1 found this helpful Model Shipways makes good quality kits with excellent plans and instructions. Looking forward to building this plank-on-frame kit!

A good little starter kit for building sailing ships.
This is my first attempt at building a sailing ship of any kind. I purchased this kit on it's merits of size and how it looked on the cover of the box. The skill level is rated 2, which means some cutting, forming, fitting and gluing is required. The plastic parts have some very good detail such as port covers, simulated wood grain on hull and decks etc. The billowing sails are preformed molded plastic that have a realistic look to them. Now the cons on this model. There is quite a bit of pin marks (ejection points from mold) on the plastic parts which may need sanding. On my model, I had some real issues in getting the hull to align properly, especially on the bowsprit (front) and stern (back) of ship. This model teaches the builder in using patience - a must if you plan to build higher skill level models! If you plan on rigging the ship, the directions were poorly printed so they are almost unreadable. Aside from the alignment and rigging issues that I experienced, it has still turned out to be a fun project. I'd say, "Go ahead mate and give 'er a try!!!"

Closse enough!
Building the Nantucket lightship and this color was the closest that I could find to match up with "spar" colored paint that was used by the USCG.
