It's a shame Apple discontinued the wired version of the short keyboard
I have a setup where one external monitor (Apple Thunderbolt Display) is shared between several MacBook users. It's so convenient to connect just two cables (power + Thunderbolt) and have a desktop-like experience! I connect this short version of the USB keyboard to the display so that it takes less space on the desk.

It's a power cord. It supplies power.
Very boring, but it does the job. I wish it was shorter for my application; at least it's not too long.

I haven't tried it with 2160p, but with 1080p, it works without a hitch. Make sure your monitor has a compatible connector though.
