PLEASE do not overlook this Italian release . . .
Excellent set of 3 Oscar winners on blu ray: Gandhi, To Kill a Mockingbird, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. I suppose they're collected on a "Social Issues" theme. ALL are Region 1 compatible, ALL are the English release versions: one just has to get over the Italian verbiage on cover, but all films/discs are obvious as to their content (all have respective iconic images).
One of those "deal of the year" purchases, as I paid under $10, including shipping . . .
Oh, And all films have extra features galore, incl. 2nd entire disc for Gandhi, and "A Conversation with Gregory Peck". Superb.

Von Sternberg's silents are back (delay not) . . .
An excellent BLU release of Criterion's out of print / out of price range dvd set. Superb on all counts, with -as far as I can tell- exact packaging/extras as dvd set. I was the sole bidder on another new blu set, and picked it up for a total of $42. Highest recommendation!

The General: 2001 Kino release, with 2 shorts -
An older dvd release -NOT public domain- but good quality, with approp. score.
For those unaware, this film is normally in the "top 50" films of ALL time. Yes, a silent, but it IS that good.
Show your children, explain the history of silent film to them, explain that 'talkies' were initially considered a mere novelty . . . While this is a totally acceptable release, tech advances in restoring silent film have taken tremendous strides in the last 20 yrs. IF a title of interest, consider this film in a later Kino 'ultimate edition', or a Cohen Media 2K restoration. In any form, marvellous cinema awaits you!
