In Search of the Real Dad's Army: The Home Guard and the D... by Cullen, Stephen
    Jan 06, 2020
    Well worth a read!
For anyone interested in the Brits in WW 2 this is a must. Like many Americans I first became truly aware of the Home Guard by watching "Dad's Army" on PBS. Wonderful series even today. A humorous look at a group of Englishmen who were unable to serve in the regular forces, but were able to help with home defense. This book does an excellent job of showing the very important work they actually did, by manning the majority of anti-aircraft guns in 1944 for example. Current prices of used copies are quite reasonable.
The Lost Planet - Cliffhanger Serial DVD Herman Judd Holdren Vivian Mason

    Odd but entertaining
It is what you should expect about one of the last of the serials, not as well done as some earlier ones were. But where else will you get to see a 5000mph, atomic-powered Ercoupe capable of interplanetary travel? Video quality fluctuates, but does not prevent enjoyment of a serial a bit unlike any other.
McNamara's Folly: The Use of Low-IQ Troops in the Vietnam War by Hamilton Gregor

    McNamara's Folly--a lesson for today
Since the boys & girls at the pentagon are trying to implement a similar program, this book should be read by anyone interested in the subject. Gives the author's personal perspective as well as reflects his research on this controversial program.
