Always consider the possibilities
2 of 2 found this helpful As all of today's solar panels are similar in performance, the price is dropping due to volume production and consumption. You need to be aware of the factors determining the absolute performance. Consistence of quality of the individual cells (36 on most panels) that are used in series to create a maximum potential of around 21.5Volts, any one cell that is poor in performance will seriously reduce the overall performance of the panel, a "weak" cell will heat up when the panel is loaded, so reduce even further the output of the panel.
Testing this condition will need a constant illumination, not easy on cloudy days, place a piece of black card the size of each cell on the end of a perspex rod, and cover each cell while monitoring the power from the panel with a watt-meter, any suspect cell will be easily detected, in a perfect panel covering each cell should produce a similar drop in power output. Using an infra-red heat camera will show the weaker cells when the panel is under load by its temperature.
This supplier provided the panels quickly at a reasonable price, however there are a few weaker cells in all the items supplied, none so serious as to cause a total loss of power, but certainly noticeable by their high temperatures, how this will affect the life of the panel I cannot say at this stage.
Bypass diodes in the connection panel: Usually when panels are used in series, a power diode is included within the connection panel, to create a bypass for current should one panel get seriously shaded, these panels are fitted with TWO diodes in series, the connection defaulting to that of bypass function, why TWO? maybe there is a question of power handling capacity of each and supplying two divides the power between each..
When panels are used in parallel (12 Volt systems) each panel should have blocking diode to
stop current from an active illuminated panel passing to a less illuminated panel, in the situation where the panels are in different orientations (say East / West) or tilted on the roof of an RV.
These panels are fitted with two diodes and the panel output is set by default as series i.e with bypass diodes, there was no mention of needing to make alterations for parallel panel operation, it is possible but requires soldering inside the connector box, this was not mentioned.
Generally the panels are solid construction, aluminium channel and sealed with "silastic" or similar silicone sealer, the leads provided are correctly coloured Red & Black, whereas some suppliers use just black.
Mounting hardware, brackets, nuts, bolts, washers etc, when supplied, are substantial and of good quality, though it is necessary in some orientations to drill extra holes in the panel edge to match up with the drilling's in the brackets, the hardware's supplied to fix the panel to the brackets are overly long and if used to their full extent would puncture the panel cells, need to be 16 mm and not 25 mm as supplied.

Big, Chunky and Works
Say's it all really, it's not one of your minuture pocket Huawei's, it is just a very good NAT router, with dual band Wi-Fi (2.4G & 5G) and the ability to provide a fast internet connection when using an external modem on an existing network, or better still a fast 4G connection using the 4G mobile phone service where no line connection exists.
It does not provide any form of load balancing between sources, that would be asking a lot for the money, however you can manually switch between souces. The configure interface allows most of the usual router featues, like port triggering, DMZ and blocking to be user setup.
Gripes: One mainly WHY use a micro SIM in such a large box, a standard mini-SIM would be more convenient for anyone moving over from a pocket wi-fi unit. Someone mentioned the power unit (12V) yes, this might be a two pin EU standard, so need an adaptor for use in the U.K, better still get a better quality higher power unit if the router is to be run 24 hours.
