Easy install
0 of 1 found this helpful I finally bought the Byrd Shelix head for my DeWalt 735 planer. Install was easier than I thought. You just have to have a snap ring pliers, one that pulls apart and one that squeezes together, a 6mm socket, and I think that it was a 13/16" socket to remove the nut from the shaft. Also, there is one size of allen wrench that is different from the one on the machine that will be needed. I followed along to a YouTube video.
The one that I purchased did not need to have the cutters removed for install and is noticeably a smaller head. The cut is nice and smooth with an incredible sound reduction.
The only downfall of installing this head on the DeWalt 735 is that it makes the machine work much harder. I have blown my 20 amp breaker a few times already.. I try and take light passes but it is obviously making the machine do much more work.
Overall, for a hobby shop this is a great addition to the DeWalt without the investment into a larger machine. I think that the quieter sound alone is reason enough to switch from straight knives.
