Martin Backpacker Great guitar for traveling on the go
This little guitar seems to
be either loved or hated by
reviewers. I simply LOVE
it! They tell me that it
can't be played without
using the supplied Martin
guitar strap. I say not
necessarily! I have been
able to cradle the guitar
in such a way using my
right forearm at the very
bottom (where the strap
button is) and play without
many problems. Sure, you
can't get 100% freedom of
movement, but I can play
with 95% accuracy in the
aforementioned fashion, and
still enjoy myself. And
that's primarily what this
guitar is all about.
Enjoying YOURSELF! The
strap is a joy to use and
gives you complete freedom
of movement. The guitar
feels weird to be sure, but
that's just part of its
charm. It's certainly not a
concert guitar by any
means, but it is much
louder than I expected it
to be. The guitar's shape
reminds me of a broom. The
Martin logo at the top and
front of the headstock is
very fancy. Much moreso
than I would have ever
expected. It is some kind
of textured metal
resembling gold. It stands
out from the guitar, and
makes it look regal, to say
the least. This guitar is
primarily about the NECK.
That's what makes it or
breaks it. And the neck on
the one I won on eBay is
perfect, and they tell me
that it is reminscent of
the necks one would
encounter on the finest of
Martin guitars. I don't
know about this claim, as
this is my very first
Martin guitar, but the
reason I bought it is
because the reviews stated
that the neck was "pure
Martin." That in and of
itself was reason enough
for me to start bidding on
one. I seem to have gotten
a spectacular deal on mine,
because I managed to pick
it up for $110. whereas I
see it listed on "Buy It
Now" auctions starting at
about $217. before
shipping. I can imagine
taking this guitar
anywhere. It is supposedly
designed to fit in the
overhead compartments in
airplanes. The fretboard is
a little shorter than I am
accustomed to, but the
QUALITY of it is topnotch.
The feel is excellent, and
the instructions which
accompanied the guitar:
"The Care and Feeding of
Your Martin Backpacker"
recommend the proper
strings to use, as it is
only engineered to
accomodate extra light
guage strings. The sound is
somewhere between a ukelele
and banjo, but then again
it's the sound of a Martin
Backpacker Guitar. They say
it's a great conversation
piece, and will most
assuredly break the ice
when meeting people at the
beach or at the park. It's
something to be proud of to
be sure! Some people say
that Martin should not have
made such a guitar, as it's
an affront to the "real"
Martins. I say that this
guitar is a pioneer in its
field and is something
great to take along with
you, no matter where you
are going. As a guitar
player, you can definitely
keep your fingers in shape
if you're going somewhere
that you would not care to
take a full sized
dreadnaught or other large
guitar. All in all this
guitar changed my life for
the better, and that's
plenty of testimony right
there!

Creative and forceful early offerings of arguably one of the greatest power-trios of all time.
The inimitable Eric Clapton, the great late Jack Bruce and the still kickin' Ginger Baker combined talents during the raw young years.
This album is one of the milestones of the sixties, and has gone down in musical history as one of the greatest offerings of rock 'n roll ever produced.

VOX does it again with NuTube technology!
Reminiscent form factor. 50 watts of manageable power. VOX recreates the thrill of playing through vacuum tubes with their proprietary NuTube technology. A single 10" Celestion sounds incredibly rich and punchy, but there is a line out and impedance selector enabling speaker expansion if so desired.
The head will shut down if unattended for 15 minutes.
What's not to like?
The "British Racing Green" color option is a refreshing change.
Great looking and sounding amp out of the box, with limitless possibilities.
