The SDW2 is a bit beefier at the shoulder and the same length as the 85As I was using. The paint finish does chip off and get on the drumset.
I was using the Vic Firth 85As, which worked well for me for playing anything from jazz to Classic Rock, but they tend to chip away at the shoulder while playing louder volumes against the hi-hat and crash cymbals. The SDW2 is a slightly bigger diameter but the same length as the 85As. They are beefier at the shoulder so this area of the stick holds up better. The yellow finish is painted on and it does chip off and get on your drums but it's not too much more noticeable than the unpainted wood chips due to the color. The yellow finish does not appear to rub off and get on cymbals. At least I haven't noticed it at this point after using them for a week or so. These sticks are a good choice if you're looking for something lighter than 5As but don't want to go as light as 7As. Overall, I'm very satisfied with these sticks.
