Entertaining, educational; decent starter system.
Nearly a complete kit. For longevity, I will use 1/4” plywood because the styrofoam will fail if an accident occurs (after all, humans are prone to this). I think it’s important to have a support system under to level, stabilize and provide a good viewing height. A hollow core door might work better and save a bit of money..

Hobby mat
A good size for model cars in the 1/24-25 scale. Has a decent thickness for cutting. The inch markings are off enough for a 1/16”
Difference. Use a steel rule if you want precision.
