Works well with one simple modification
2 of 2 found this helpful For the money you can't beat this CW reader. I see a lot of complaints about it not working and most are about not being able to adjust the LED. The fix: The reader needs one change so it has more of an adjustment range on the frequency range pot that controls the LED. There is a 4.7K resistor (yellow/violet/Red) just to the left of the pot (next to the 1uf 50v electrolytic cap). That resistor needs to be changed to a 10K (brown/black/orange). By changing this one resistor you will now have a much wider range of the input frequency, and you'll be able to adjust the LED to be bright when receiving CW. That's all that needed for a huge improvement! If you'd like documentation, do a search for "A PIC16F84 based CW decoder" This basic circuit is nearly identical. All in all this CW reader works well for reasonably clean CW signals, but does have occasional problems with weak or fading signals (But still very usable).
I hope this helps, good luck and 73'

A very high quality phono preamp for low $$$
This preamp is a clone of an EAR 834 phono preamp. The PC board and most of the components are high quality. I choose to upgrade the audio stage capacitors to higher quality. For the price you can't beat the sound of this preamp unless you spend well over $1000 dollars.
