Great Idea for guitars!
I always thought that the open strings had to sound different than the fretted strings. The nut material verses the fret material for starters and then the fingertip having a dampening effect also. This bone nut, machined to take the unbarbed fret wire will make the open notes closer to the fretted notes. Taking it further, perhaps bonding the top part that gets slotted, made from something similar to a callused fingertip, will make the notes, both open and fretted, match.
