Superb story-telling for young adult readers and up.
Gentle storytelling, perfect reading when times are tough. This is an excellent series for all age groups but has a nice fairy tale edge, so it's very enjoyable as an adult to read.
The artwork is clear and very accomplished. There are lots of fascinating characters all distinct and with their own voices. It's hard not to get caught up in their stories as they unfold.
The book itself is beautifully produced, hardback with linen spine and rough cut pages.
Altogether a delight and highly recommended, if only there were a volume 3...

Horror series ends on a high note.
The Harrow County series is about folklore horror.
It's a very creepy series that plays out in a series of intriguing twists.
This volume is the final chapter in the series. It doesn't skimp on the gruesome, or horror and it resolves in an incredibly satisfying fashion.
The story is well crafted by Cullen Bunn, who created characters with depth as well as constantly upping the ante.
The art is incredible, watercolours by Tyler Crook, able to display emotion, the grime and everyday beauty of a the countryside and tell a coherent story.
Highly recommended.

Subversive reading.
A beautiful young woman is drawn into the war between two ancient enemies. In many ways this is a riff on the Twilight series of books, that said it's very dark and charged with sexual tension. The artwork is expressive and cleverly uses deep shadow and bright light reinforcing themes in the story. Peter Milligan the writer is an expert in rebellious stories and this is no exception. This is a horror story but it more sophisticated than the themes appear on the surface. And this is the first volume, hopefully there will soon be more to come.
