Worked great on aluminum.
Went easily through aluminum with no pilot hole and left a good finish. Didn't try it on steel.

Well made hitch, but check your frame holes.
Hitch was well made and lined up properly. One caveat: Check the threaded holes in the frame before trying to mount the hitch. The ones on my Corolla (used in Vermont) had no plugs or bolts to protect the threads. Two had to be retapped (passenger side), and two had rusted away from the frame (driver's side). Frame itself was still solid. Making that work was beyond the tools and skills of the shade tree mechanic.
