Betweeen Silk and Cyanide
It is a recent book that fills in some events of WWII that over the last 35 years I had found little bits and pieces about, codes, procedures, and people inside the SOE communications group and the womanpower, FANYs, who were very much the brute force needed before computers were cheap enough to decrypt codes with encryption errors. The idea of using statistical errors as a tool to understand whether or not the enemy had compromised an agent(s) is fascinating, even more so when this idea became an internal political issue at headquarters. Easy read about real events and real people.
