The Cazelet Chronicles are a series of books about England in the years before and during the Second World War. The Cazelets are a large multi-generational family. that have a thriving business dealing with fine woods, The head of their business is old Mr Cazelet .who is delegating most of the responsibilities to his three sons, who with their wives , lovers and children make a compelling story. The writing is exceptional and the many characters are all finely drawn. The writer has a gift for writing about children that is especially fine. The books are altogether some of my favorites. Marking Time is the second of the chronicles and it has the various families dealing with the coming war and the complications that occur,
