water rings not as tall and leak
1997 grand marquis 4.6 I have a Dorman replacement intake manifold where the "O" rings started leaking antifreeze after six years. I bought this replacement set and installed to still have leaks. The antifreeze rings ( blue ) are not as tall as the red ( air ). I cleaned the manifold and head surfaces with a single edge razor and alcohol and carefully positioned the manifold with "O rings installed. I set everything finger tight then torqued to specs in the order recommended. Got leaks after two days. I repeated the entire process and used blue RTV around the water ( blue ) rings. I fashioned a steel over brace to pick up the third head to manifold bolt around the heater output... so far no leaks after three days. The flaw in the manifold to only connect two of the three head bolts around the heater port is probably the real reason but the blue "O" rings are definitely not as tall and therefor do not seal as well as the air intake ports.
