Maintains backward compatibility for legacy hardware.

I was able to connect my new iMac, with only Thunderbolt 3 ports, to legacy peripherals that used the older Thunderbolt 2 port, which is like a mini display port. I think that Apple should have supplied this gadget with the computer to maintain backward compatibility. I was very happy to find one on ebay.

Excellent replacement board
This was an exact replacement for the existing board in my tv. Had it working again in about a half hour, most of that time being to remove and reinstall the back cover. The board replacement was simple and quick.

Perfect for earbud use!
Works exactly as I had hoped. I plug this little device into the DIN cord on my Goldwing, then I can put earbuds in my ears and put my helmet on over them, no special "modifying of my helmet", plug into this device and hear my stereo and NAV system perfectly!
