Best Kept secret in Stones

For years, the selection of finer grit stones has been poor at best. Recently someone in the stone market saw a need for a nice combination stone with two finer grits instead of just coarse and fine. I have found the stone great for sharpening tools. Even better is the ability of this stone to be used to produce a killer smooth finish on work in a metal lathe where a standard file would never provide the needed finish. It is a well kept secret seldom if ever seen in a book. The resulting finish with some light oil is almost like that of a tool post grinder without the cost of such a luxury machine tool. Just wish I had such stones 20 years ago.

F5 felt for high quality machine tool maintenance!

The F5 grade felt is the most desirable felt density for the manufacture of precision machine tool way wipers. Any well used machine tool should have the wipers replaced once a year or as needed. Helps to keep the precision ground way surfaces free of dirt and chips. Also to spread the lubrication over the surfaces. The white color helps to let one know when the felt is becoming soiled and perhaps time for replacement. The density is great for the holding of machine oil and keeping the slightest pressure on the surfaces. It cuts real nicely with a sharpened wood chisel honed to a razor sharp edge on a block of hardwood as a backup for the chisel. A large sheet can be used to cut wipers of any shape as needed for the larger machine tools. A great way to give a machine tool extra life is to use good felt and replace it often.
