Better, but at what cost
Obtained the Chord Epic Analogue RCA 1m interconnect as ex-display. Although the item had some minor signs of wear around the silver-plated RCA connector pins, the general condition of the interconnects was very good. Albeit, not in the original packaging, the interconnects do come with the manufacturer's full warranty (hopefully, what I won't need to call on!).
As for the sound, they are slightly more airy/spacious sounding than the Chord Shawline they replace. Bass notes also seem a tad tighter. Saying that, if I hadn't acquired the Epic as ex-display and at a good price, I'd struggle to justify the price difference for the step up in quality over the Shawline. May be that's the limits of my hearing, or the limits of my equipment. Who knows?
In summary, I would say the Epic is better, but if you're on a budget, don't dismiss the Shawline, because it may not be the change/step up you're looking for.

Headphone amplifier with attitude
1 of 1 found this helpful In comparison to other headphone amplifiers I've owned or tried, this amp packs a lot of punch! In driving my Sennheiser HD800's, the amp seems effortless and delivers a wide soundstage. The amp doesn't appear to implant its own character on the music, which to me, allows the music to be presented naturally, probably, as the engineer wanted it to sound, when it was mastered!
The amp caters for RCA and/or XLR inputs for the source, with standard 6.3mm jack, or again, balanced output. Further, there's a gain switch, if needed.
My set up sees the amp used in combination with its stable mate the MX-VYNL, all in balanced configuration.
I appreciate that it's a case of each to their own, but for me, I can stop spending money chasing the ever elusive concept of perfection and finally start enjoying the music!

Ray, but jazzed up!
The CD packaging is what I think is called digipak, although, there is no plastic housing for the CD to rest in. To me, this is the only let down, primarily as I still prefer the good old jewel case, as I think it protects the CD better, and certainly doesn't deform with use over time. However, I appreciate that the world is looking for and implementing "greener" alternatives.
I've always enjoyed the way Steve Tyrell interprets and renders the tracks he selects for his albums. This one is no different. If you like jazz and the influence it can imprint on music originally written for other genres, then you'll really enjoy this interpretation of Ray Charles' songs.
