"Modeling with John Allen" book
A nice book that gives great examples of John Allen's "Gorre and Daphetid" model railroad. The book is a bit old, and the photos reflect that as well. On the other hand, for an afficionado that goes loves MRR and wants to have an example from the person that really set MRR into motion (no pipe cleaner pine trees!), this is a great resource.

The Encyclopedia of Model Railways (1979)
Good book for train buff. The book reviews numerous model railroding things, but a bit aged as to what is available. Remember, its an old book ;)
