COOKS UTILITY KNIFE R140 RADA CUTLRY BLADE 4 3/4" OVERALL 8 5/8" MADE IN USA

    Handles well, stays sharp.
These knives have been my favorite since I first used them at my MIL's in 2003. I couldn't believe how lightweight and sharp they were! I had until then, been accustomed to using the traditional chef's knives all cooks use: large, bulky, stainless steel monsters that do the cutting FOR you, am I right? But my MIL had a small set of these RADA knives and the Granny fork: the utility knife, the paring knife and 2 other pieces. I was hooked! She had the traditional ones, of course, but with my aching hands due to Lupus Erythematosus, I kept reaching for the RADA pieces. By the end of my visit I had decided I'd buy some pieces for myself as soon as I had my own kitchen. I lived and worked in a hostel back then so buying my own utensils didn't make much sense. Now I'm creating my collection, with multiples of some pieces just because! The handles stay firmly in your hand even when the job is a greasy one, the handles are comfortable even in a small hand and you DON'T need a special sharpener to get them absolutely razor sharp. The one thing I DO suggest is that you keep them away from the dishwasher! They are VERY lightweight so even in the top rack they may get thrown around, and you don't want that beautiful finish marred! Also, do NOT throw them into the bottom of the sink when you're done cutting! A hand can get sliced pretty badly down there if someone doesn't know they are there. Keep them on the edge of the sink, preferably on a spoon rest, until you're ready to wash them. Lastly, you don't need to sharpen them but once or twice a month at MOST, and only use a polishing sword in between times in order to keep them in their best condition. The blades ARE of GREAT quality carbon steel and will keep their edge as long as you use plastic cutting boards and DON'T try to use these knives to open steel or tin cans or anything else for which they're not intended. They may look like a throw-away knife and they're also fairly inexpensive but my MIL had hers for over 20 YEARS before she gave her set to me! Get a knife for yourself and see if you don't fall sharply in love as well!
RADA Cutlery R140 Cook's Utility Knife Made in U.S.A.

    Lightweight but stays sharp!
My Momma-in-law has this knife. She gave me the rest of the set as a house warming gift when I moved into my own apt in TX but I REALLY needed the much wider blade of the RADA Cook's knife. The handle isn't too heavy or too smooth so it stays right where you need it and the blade keeps it's edge longer than the bigger, heftier knives. I have joint issues due to Lupus so I need a knife that works FOR me. This knife and it's companions do it ALL. If you need a nimble knife for the kitchen because of space or health issues, this is the answer.
