Strap to keep helmet on

I opened the box and took the helmet out. I noticed something different from the straight I have seen on other helmets. One side the strap was completely straight. The other side the strap was wound backwards and could really feel it when connecting it when wearing the helmet. I tried to straighten the strap, but it was impossible to turn. I have other helmets, but was hoping this fit much better. It did not!
