Excellent BBC Classic Historical Miniseries
I watched this on DVD from my library & it's one of the most well-acted amd researched mini-series about English history I've ever watched.
The casting was impeccable, especially Keith Michell as the conflicted yet indomitable and stubborn King Henry VIII. He reveals a human side to "the person in the portrait", as do the actresses in the roles of the Six Wives. Other notables are the previous Dr. Who as the Duke of Norfolk, & Bernard Hepton as Archbishop Cranmer.
Watching this series also gives a sense of appreciation for how much work the BBC invested in this series. Such dedication holds up & proves the relevance of both the show (50 years after its release as the first Masterpiece Theatre miniseries) and the pivotal historical changes in England brought about in the reign of Henry VIII. I would strongly recommend this series to lovers of the Tudors, Reign or more recent shows about the Tudor period to watch this highly authentic & well-researched & produced classic! It will impress beyond your expectations!
