Samsung YEPP YH-999
1 of 1 found this helpful These media players were state of the art only a couple of years ago. Now high end iPod and others are well ahead of them. However, for the $ these go for now, they are a steal! They are very solid and tough, have a bright clear and large screen and with 20 gig of HDD, they hold thousands of songs and pictures or even hundreds of videos.
Probably the biggest down fall to owning one is the near total lack of aftermarket items to go with it. No docking stations, car cradles etc available except 'universal' ones which, well, look universal. The second worst issue to me is that the plugs (several of them) are on the side and the top which means you can't even make a nice custom docking station without cords sticking out. Lastly, touch screen would be nice, but the menus are clear and functional and the buttons work well.
On the plus side though is an endless list of things. These can be bought under $100. The sound is top of the line (20-20K, very low noise and distortion levels). They output to TV and or stereo as well as buds, run several hours on battery and are 100% plug and play with Windows Media 10 or higher, no software to install at all. The case is extreemly strong and feels substantial, the HDD almost silent and the colour and brightness of the screen is well above expectations, even outside in the sun.
If you have hundreds to spend, buy a new player, if you're on a budget, don't spend $100 on a cheap Asian clone made of thin plastic and just waiting to break, get one of these.

Works well
For the cost, with motorized zoom, this is a bargin. The auto focus is acurate but slow, especially in night mode. Has features like auto/manual IR lighting, backlighting, manual iris etc, only missing software setting is the i-frame or key-frame interval that most cameras allow you to change, this one is not adjustable. Many older reviews gave this camera less than good due to issues if using Blue Iris however that seems to be history. Instructions on ReoLinks page is wrong, however Blue Iris support pointed me to setting camera to 'baseline' and then using RTMP-baseline (Reolink says to use RTSP, drops constantly) in Blue Iris and it works perfect. Hasn't dropped from BI once in 7 days, zoom works via the BI panel etc and for this resolution with motorized zoom I'm quite happy

4th Gen Ipod Photo
This is my second used ipod, don't buy new!! Ipod's are a great device, but in my opinion not worth the new asking price when used is a fraction.
I have a 5th gen video 30gb and picked up this 40gb 4th gen. The 5th gen is certainly a nicer machine, much thinner, however both produce decent sound and otherwise work the same. Could be me, but it seems like the 4th gen sync's slower. I do prefer the color/larger screen of the 5th, but seriously, forget about watching movies on it, so for that reason, if you can pick up 40gb of 4th gen for 1/2 a 30gb 5th gen, do it!
In both cases though, I have an older Samsung YH-999 Yepp that has a screen twice the size, has far better color then the 5th gen, has better sound then either and displays its menu, _including_ album art, on my TV screen, neither Ipod can do that. Ipods on the other hand have endless add-on's available and iTunes is actually pretty decent compared to Windows Media (which the Samsung uses).
I've spent a little over $150 for both ipods, a couple of excellent Griffin docks, a Pioneer adapter cable and a Monster FM cable, hell of a pile of good stuff for that kind of coin.
