    Must item for Spirit completists...
This is a must item for Spirit completists but may be a "Pass" item for people who don't like daily comic strips or B & W comics, period. For Spirit fans, it may a lesser part of the title's run but it's still an essential part of the collection. DC and its archive researchers have undertaken a herculean effort to try to get thee best surviving examples of these daily strips into compiled form and have succeeded -- at least for the most part. Remember, nobody thought nearly 70 years ago that anybody would be interested in a collection of this material. That said, it's nice to see that copies of all the dailies have been found and that the restoration effort was excellent. These are not faded, illegible copies.

Tales of the Batman by Alan Brennert Hardcover Book (English)
    Dec 01, 2016
This book is an excellent buy; stories by great artists written by a talented writer...
Alan Brennert is NOT a huge name in comics circles but the few DC stories he wrote have resonated with collectors and fans of the DC characters for years. These are excellent character stories written mostly before the ill-fated 1985 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series that destroyed a much more innocent DC Universe and eliminated quite a few classic characters including a few that Brennert wrote in some of his stories. The best three stories in this book probably concern the Golden Age Earth-2 Batman, the modern-age Batman and the original Earth-2 Robin and Batwoman, and a holiday story featuring Deadman and an unexpected guest star (who was killed during the Crisis mentioned earlier). Most comic books have stale, wooden characterization. That's fair criticism, yes, but it's not true for all of them. The characters definitely feel pain in these stories but they grow, too. Had I paid for these stories in monthly format, I would not have felt cheated. As a hardcover collection, the online price IS a steal. You could pay for more stories in other Batman collection but there are very few that are half as good as this one despite being a thinner volume with "only" nine stories reprinted inside.

Shazam: The World's Mightiest Mortal Vol. 1 [Hardcover] O'Neil, Dennis
    Aug 23, 2021
Very good value if you can find it at a good price
Better than expected but not quite as good as the Golden Age version. It was an honest attempt to revive the character and for the most part DC got it on their first shot but maybe Capt Marvel was too much a product of the Golden Age. At any rate, the artwork was first-rate and evocative of his prime because his classic artist returned to draw the comic.
