Interesting new take on an excellent line of external hard disc drives
As an avid fan of the previous models of the WD My Passport series of external hard drives, I was initially put off by the new aesthetic of the product. With the odd ridges on half of the hard drive and the sharp edges of the plastic shell, I couldn't help but compare it to its more professional-looking, ergonomic predecessor.
Looks aside, this hard drive has made some interesting design changes which has solved issues I have had with the older drives. Unlike the older model, this drive has a LED which is much softer on the eyes at night, a must when trying to get sleep. Another major improvement I've quickly noticed is the increased stiffness of the USB connectors, which may suggest higher durability. In addition, I noticed that this revised drive does not fit as easily into drive cases, due to the aforementioned sharp shell edges.
The biggest pro I see for this drive (why I bought it) is the significantly lower cost compared to the previous model. This may not hold true indefinitely, but this external hard drive is a great bargain during sales.
