Success!
I love the book, and this adaptation will not disappoint. The beloved characters come alive. I put it in the DVD player while I wrap Christmas presents.

A pretty faithful adaptation that keeps one's interest
I am a huge fan of the book. I thought this adaptation did well in bringing in most characters-the Rivers sisters are not combined, for example-, and I see the purpose for the slight variations. There are very effective flashbacks to keep us entertained while Jane is away from Thornfield. Be warned, I almost gave this a 4 because they messed up Edward's amazing words under the horse chestnut tree, but the rest of the scene is pretty true to Bronte's poetic prose and very engaging as poor, plain, obscure and little Jane and Byronic Edward make their declarations. Ruth Wilson and Tobey Stephens are splendid as Jane and Mr. Rochester. Enjoy!
