Dream phone for modders, terrible for average users.
This is a GREAT phone if you like custom roms and hardware mods, but for a day to day user who doesn't, its terrible. It's out of date, the stock software that it comes with is garbage, and the battery is terrible. I personally only recommend this phone if you get it sim-modded and install Sailfish OS on it. This phone with Sailfish OS was and still is god tier.
Droid 4 in 2018 - Great Keyboard, Try something slightly newer
Battery life? usable for light users. Anyone who games or uses their phone for more than 3 hours during the day will cry and need a portable charger.
Display? Ghosting issues that you will (sadly) get used to fast
Keyboard? Worth it, still destroys every software keyboard out there
Software? Use custom software (google Lineage OS and CyanogenMod Droid 4 or something)
Should you buy it? No. Get a sim modded Photon Q if possible. This phone is outdated even for a 2012 phone. PERIOD.
Buying it for Sailfish OS support? as of now the port is okay-ish, who knows, maybe TheKit has made it perfect.
Great for enthusiests, Terrible for average users.
If you're looking for a phone to just purchase and use and be happy with out of the box - look else where. The stock software that this phone comes with is pretty terrible, the battery life leaves a lot to be desired, and it can barely cope with most modern tasks.
Don't get me wrong, I own and use one as my daily driver (main phone) and I love the thing. However, I've installed custom firmware and messed with it to an extreme degree. You can run Android 10 on it if you're willing to put in 20 minutes of work. It's impressive!
The catch to the good side of things is that these models are getting rare and hard to find. If you can get one for 20 bucks or less get it, otherwise get something else.
