A Brief but Flawed Overview
This is an amateur, self-published book, only 129 pages long, that draws upon other and better secondary sources. The writing and organization are uneven in quality, with frequent and rather lengthy digressions into the lives and careers of Moffat, his associates, and his rivals. Relatively little of the work is dedicated to the actual construction and operation of the railroad, save for a number of interesting anecdotes. Having recently read several other books on this subject, I would recommend the two volumes by P.R. Griswold first, and secondly, Edward T. Bollinger's book. Unfortunately, the Griswold and Bollinger books can be hard to find and sometimes quite expensive, in which case this work would provide a short, if imperfect, introduction to the subject. Otherwise, not worth the purchase price.
