Hilarious Sendup Of Bond
This is NOT a straight Bond movie. It’s more like a British-made prototype for the Austin Powers series. If you like British humor and Austin Powers and James Bond and Peter Sellers you will enjoy this movie.

Good book from an outstanding author
I am an enormous fan of John Keegan and while his best books (Face of Battle, History of War, First World War) are better, this is a great book in the second class of his classics. He has a very observant sense to him which is unmatched.

Paul Fussell's Eighth-Best Book
I am a big fan of this author. His masterpiece is The Great War and Modern Memory and that book gave him license to write any other books he wanted. He used that license to write several more very good books. But this is one of two books of his which isn't very good. The other book being (appropriately) titled "Bad".
If you are very interested in the detailed description of several types of uniforms and what they attempt to signify and why they were designed this way then you will enjoy this book. But if you are looking for Fussell's typical ironic irreverent analysis you will not find much of that here.
If you like this author from reading another book of his try a different book like:
Abroad
Thank God for the Atom Bomb (essays)
Wartime
Doing Battle
(In that order)
...and of course anyone with interest in literature, culture, historiography, or World War One should put The Great War and Modern Memory at the top of your reading list. It is not like most books about World War One. It is about how it is remembered. And it is amazing!
