War Years LIFE
For some years at bedtime for reasons unknown to me, I bring a couple of 1940's editions of LIFE magazine to bed with me and much on peanut butter crackers and Coke. Perhaps it brings solace and reminds me of an easier and more simple time. I love mulling over the adds and Elsie the Borden Cow's episodes with cranky hubby, Elmer. Equally entertaining at times are the folks that write in to the editor about a previous weeks edition.
"The Ruins of St Lo" was interesting reading as was the article on "The Night Landing on New Britain" as was the art work. A great addition to anyone who stack piles old war year LIFE magazines.

Nikon S2
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this camera to add to my growing family of rangefinders. I didn't have a Nikon and ran across this one and it was about as good as it gets cosmetically and had recently been CLA'd.
Knowing little about the rf patch I just assumed it would be like the Leica M-it's not even close. The patch is about half the size as the M3 or M4 and not as well defined and sharp...more of a square blob compared to the well defined rectangular patch of the M cameras.
I had trouble focusing with it being more accustomed to the Leica but I've read not even the Contax is like the Leica. I'm still in the process of trying to get use to the difference but the lens is second to none in quality-sharp, contrasty and as good as a 50mm lens could be and definitely up to the quality of the Nikkor 50 or 50 f2 Summicron for that matter. I could not fault the lens at all.
If you can get by the patch and are not use to the Leica you should do well. Some can adapt better than I have.

Best of the Best
3 of 3 found this helpful I wanted an F2AS many years ago but settled on the then new FE followed by the FM with motor drive. Since then I've owned the F2 Photomic, F2A and finally the F2AS A beautifully designed camera and the LED display is a photographers dream-quick and accurate. My only qualm about it is it's a bit difficult to see the meter display in bright sunlight with the sun at your right or left-it just seems to disappear. Any other angle or an overcast or cloudy day there's no problem. This is the camera all us wanna be photographers wanted in 1977...I finally achieved my goal!! There's no moving up I've already arrived.:)
