Dead batteries
The batteries in both players are completely dead. I have no history with the Phillips player, but have had several of the SanDisk models, all of which have been fine. But with dead batteries, neither is at all useful

Perfect for my needs
I bought this just for the case, which I intend to modify by adding a fan. Getting a spare power supply and a working remote that I could re-program for my other TiVos was a bonus.

Perfect for RockBox
I'm a fan of these players, but I install the "RockBox" firmware on them.
They generally do have long battery life, but they're not made anymore, so you're at the mercy of the previous user's care in keeping the battery charged properly.(This particular one only lasts around 4 hours. The one it replaced would go all day, but it 'died' for other reasons.)
