    About

The bulk of what I sell are vintage computer items. Less often are things I take on consignment or find in pawn shops or garage sales. If there's something specific you're looking for, I can help.

I frequent the cctalk mailing list.

Deep Breakfast, it's not just for breakfast.
Though this is classified as "new age", it sounds more like someone playing around with some synthesizers and doing a really good job at it. In particular, "The Oh Of Pleasure" is little more than an arppegiator being run up and down an octave or two. The tunes all have a rounded and bubbly feeling. If you're a fan of Art Bell and George Noory, you've probably heard a few tracks from this disc as bumper music.

Handy for tinkering and thin metals
This thing is three taps in one for three of the most common SAE screw sizes, 6-32, 8-32, and 10-24 and looks like a screwdriver. Because of this, it fits in holsters or toolboxes that might not be so accommodating to a regular tap set. Or maybe you're on top of a ladder and need to clear the paint out of a threaded hole. Reach for this thing instead of fiddling with a tap handle and bits. It's only good for materials up to 8.5mm thick, but that's the sort of application for which I bought it.

Inexpensively hackable into a scientific calculator
The latest offerings of scientific calculators leave a lot to be desired. The HP33s and HP35s have keyboard problems and bugs galore with no fixes in sight. Furthermore, these two calculators have no provision to update their firmware. Enter the HP30b. This one is capable of having its firmware updated and the keyboard is nearly identical to the discontinued HP32sii and HP42s. Some very clever people cooked up a new firmware dubbed the WP34s and printed overlay stickers. Those will turn this business calculator into a very capable RPN scientific calculator. It doesn't have much memory, nor is the LCD very good compared to what's possible, but you work with what you have. Do a Google search for WP34s and you'll see how fun and easy it is to modify the HP30b.
