Works great for home use.
This is not a tough enough shock mount for commercial or stage use. However it is a real bargain for home use. I loaned several to my audio students and no one had any problems. Plus they are so easy to use: just slide the mic in, and you are done.

A very clean preamp and a True bargain
Well the rating system here is irrational. The True Precision 8 preamp IS excellent, but I expected it to be excellent, (I used to own a True PSolo) so it is not "better than I expected" (4 stars). Is it "awesome sauce" (5 stars)? The word awesome can mean anything to anyone. So it doesn't actually help the reader. There might be one or two preamps I would give 5 stars to, if it meant "perfect", but I haven't had the chance to use those preamps in production. True Systems makes a very clean preamp - quiet background with little harmonic distortion, and fast transient response. Compared to my other very clean preamps, by Grace Design, the True is just a tiny bit warmer to my ears. But it has none of the extra harmonics added by, in my experience, an Avalon 727 or Aphex 207 (on purpose) or a hundred other budget preamps that have no choice. I've used the True so far for vocals, and the effect of "clean" is the voice sits a little farther forward, and seems to float above the music even if it is at no higher level. Microphones that should sound different do sound different - I like that. And I like the clever use of level indicator LEDs, with the ability to set the peak reference to match the system reference.

Very quiet with unique features.
The Winix was a runner-up in Consumer Reports. They found it wasn't quite as effective at the lowest power setting, even though it was very quiet. Quiet was important for me, so I tried it. I am very impressed. On the lowest setting, it is wonderfully quiet. But it automatically senses the air quality and turns itself up when there is dust or smoke in the air. Then, when the air is clean, it goes to a lower speed. Also it has three filters, including an-easy to clean first filter that catches all the big stuff. The replaceable filters are under that. This means I will need to replace the charcoal and hepa filters less often. A great design.
