A grim combination of trends in our modern industrial society portends an extremely dark future for humanity in the 21st century.
This book is excellent! It ties together a whole set of trends many have been alarmed by over the past few decades, and weaves them into a compelling pattern: one presaging the ultimate dissolution of modern industrial society (at least as it is currently recognizable) by the end of the 21st century, at the latest. It does include a few assertions that I believe are arguable and could use more evidence to back them up; it neglects some additional trends that I think may be just as alarming as the several it examines; yet on the whole I found its arguments very convincing and informative. Distasteful as it might be for some to swallow the rather bitter medicine Brian Watson spoons out, I feel the author deserves praise for honesty, realism, and his refusal to offer his readers any of the usual false hope typically offered by books focusing on the alarming trends of our time.
I highly recommend it!

Highly informative but kept at a level of clarity easily accessible to the average layman
This is an excellent book that provides a badly needed corrective to much of the one-dimensional thinking about health and illness that has tended to dominate medical thinking in our Western culture in recent decades; Gabor Mate, in this badly needed work, elucidates the important, and sadly neglected roles that emotions and social connections play in determining our degree of health and wellness!

The Encyclopedia of Fantastic Films: Ali Baba to Zombies
This encyclopedia is a very inclusive work, and gives reviews of an excellent selection of a particular type of film; it isn't limited, as many works of its kind are, to one genre of movies, such as horror or science fiction, but gives summaries and credits of a wide variety of types of "fantastic films," including film noir and action movies, among others. I thought its comments on the films were pretty accurate and illuminating as to the films' nature. A good value for its cost!
