St. John's Passion by J.S. Bach (CD, 1990), conducted by John Eliot Gardiner

IMHO, it is Bach's best cantata. Have sung it three times with different choirs. Always a moving experience.

Seemed like a little problem with the first disc, but, I wiped it with a lens cloth and it seems to be playing well now. Love this Cantata even though it's in German, John Elliott Gardner's direction is, by my musician friends, considered the best. I've gotten out my choral copy that I've used to sing it in English and am singing along. The last two choral hymns, esp "Ruht wohl, ihr heiligen Gebeine" have me in tears by the third beat. Perfect for Holy Week as it approaches!
