Bebop Strings
1 of 1 found this helpful Excellent strings for a great price. They have a vintage sound to them and a vintage feel. They do not last the longest, but for the price and sound, they cannot be beat. I like their slightly raspier tone compared to D'Addarios (of course still without the finger noise and all the accommodations that you would expect from flatwounds). They are picked up by the pickup well and so the monel colors the timbre of the strings nicely. I wouldn't compare these to Thomastiks, not because they are "inferior," but because they seem to be going to a different tonal spectrum altogether. Thomastiks are very smooth, round sounding and hi-fi. I didn't care for this type of sound on my L5, but it was great on my Eastman. If you like classic bebop guitar, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Raney, Jim Hall, and Tal Farlow, these are the strings for you!
