Everything You'd Expect in a Hand Forged Small Axe from Sweden
2 of 2 found this helpful This small axe was everything I was wanting and expecting for my purpose. I wanted something larger, slightly heavier and longer than a traditional hatchet.....yet could still fit in or attached to a pack. The camping axe from Husqvarna is exactly that and more. The forging is excellent, with just enough roughness left to it to scream "hand-forged"; the handle is of really nice grain and density American Hickory and is perfectly fitted to the head and I love the unfinished feel. I plan on giving it a slight walnut stain, but it looks great just as is. I could see just waxing it, or a slight clear coat, even. I think my favorite thing is the shape and weight of the axe head; they've reduced the weight by making it about 1/2 to 3/4" less "tall", and yet the beard is fuller...a little reminiscent of a tomahawk, but only slightly so. Very elegant, but still plenty of mass left in the design for strength. I would love to see them take the exact design and scale it up 30%, with the same width handle, only about 6 or 7" longer, like a short Boys Axe.....I'd buy that one too. The leather sheath that comes with the axe is very good quality and design, as well. The edge needs some work, but is still plenty sharp if you need to get right to some hacking; I'm sure they leave it that way on purpose, so you can put the edge you like on it. Anyhow 10 out of 10, in ALL respects....a great value and top quality product. BUY this.....you WILL love it!!!
