Need stronger bases
While happy with the aluminum crossbar itself (sturdy and aerodynamic), the mounting bases are too fragile a plastic to feel comfortable tying down a canoe, despite the rack's 165lb weight limit.

You get what you pay for
Easy to install, but more plastic than I had expected. Low work quality: the front-most bolt on each side, even without a washer, won't allow the cosmetic cover to clip back into place; I'll have to mark the bolt head once tight, remove, grind off the obstructing edge, and reinstall. The mounting holes for crossbars line up perfectly, but two embedded nuts needed to be re-tapped before fitting the mounting screws. They look sharp, but I'm worried about damage if reaching the 165lb limit. I'd get something better made for higher cost next time.
