Quality but not the best, worth considering at the right price.
Canon have a reputation for producing quality products and the SX110 is no exception, having said that if I were to be really critical I would say I prefer the metal body of the old Canon Ixus range rather than this metal look plastic. First impressions are of a well designed camera which is dominated by a very generous 3 inch LCD screen. The system powers up in seconds and the logically thought out controls allow the user to navigate through the camera's various shooting options without reaching the "if all else fails read instructions" stage. Most owners will leave the camera on fully automatic which is a shame since the manual modes will often yield better results such as with back lighting or highly reflective subjects. Focussing is fast and sharp though it does sometimes struggle with smooth or shiney surfaces. The camera's lens is very good quality as you would expect predictably there is noticeable edge distortion especially when taking pictures in low light levels. The image stabilisation works very well and anyone with a tendency to camera shake will find this feature well worth having. Picture quality is very good however set on the lowest quality settings the output leaves a lot to be desired and even the most unique picture could be totally unuseable if taken in less than optimum light levels. Far better to reduce the number of shots per media card and buy more or bigger cards.
I bought the camera on behalf of a client who wishes to create over 1,000 photographic membership cards so it will be linked to a mains transformer and stay in an office, given the size of the camera it would be ideal for carrying round in your pocket for those once in a lifetime moments although battery life may become an issue. This can be made a little easier to bear by feeding the camera NIMH batteries which have a greater output and are rechargeable.
Conclusions: Would I buy the camera for myself ? Maybe although I suspect I would be enticed into buying one of the Ixus range instead. Is it worth the money ? Yes but only just, the plastic body and the plastic tripod bush - an item of potentially high wear - should have been engineered differently. The camera software and ease of use are a big plus. There are many "point and squirt" cameras far worse than the SX110 but there are several far better.

Thermocouple plus spares
Looks like a well made product and particularly useful with the additional brass fittings. Better value than buying one at a time and I've also got some spares, since it's no good waiting until I need one before buying a replacement.
