Jazz Cello by Ray Brown
There is no arco playing at all, and the miking of the cello could be different or better, I think. One or two arco tracks would've been nice as a contrast. They chose "chestnuts" to highlight the cello, so if you like famous old jazz standards, go for it. But, the only other jazz cello of that era that I can recall is some stuff by Ron Carter on Eric Dolphy albums.

Try several chin and shoulder rests, using common sense and homemade props
Violin chin rests are very personal, depending upon your physical body shape and comfort needs when playing, and thus experimenting with both shoulder and chin rests is necessary. Anyone who plays should feel free to put a sponge, say, under a their shoulder rest, or on top of their chin rest, and should experiment to find the best comfort with least strain, for good music comes more easily when the body is relaxed, for it is HARD ENOUGH to play any instrument EVEN WHEN THE BODY IS RELAXED. Thus, sometimes you might buy the wrong thing, but, ... it will fit someone else if you re-sell it.

Good Insight Into Milt Jackson
Having taken up the vibraphone about 9 months ago, I figured I'd better find out more about Milt Jackson. I have examples of his work with Thelonious Monk, but these sessions are a good snippet of some of his activity in about 1956. Overall, the Proper record label provides nice box sets at very good prices.
