Better than the other "loudest whistle' from that other company.
I've had a couple of these for a decade. My wide ranging bird dog responds well to them. I bought 6 more for attachment to life vests for my boat. There's another make whistle also claims to be loudest. Perhaps true if you just measure the narrow frequency band it makes. All ear/hearing tests I've read judge the storm whistle to be loudest, and the warbling sound it makes across a wide spectrum of frequencies makes it much more likely to be heard than the one single shrill note of the other whistle.

Great
My lprevuous one is past 20 years old. I don't give it great care and grit got in the mechanism. These are VERY handy for wood working and anytime a fractional or decimal measurement needing less than micrometer accuracy.

thicker would be better.
First, they appear to me genuine minelab, so that is good. Im concerned though about the material being thin If you scrap the ground a lot, I think these won't last very long. They are a type 5 plastic. You can buy suitable glue and raw material in sheet and other forms, and it should be easy to bend form it with mild heat. I plan to try gluing patches/ material to a cover to repair/extend its life. Adding 1/8" will make no practical difference to detector performance. Someone should make covers 4-6 x 32 inches thick that can be softened a little in hot water for installation, but no one does and these seem to be the best you can buy.
