Philips DVP3982/F7 is NOT an HD-DVD Player
1 of 2 found this helpful This DVD player, while fine in and of itself, is NOT a High Definition DVD player. What it is, in fact, is an Upconverting DVD player. What does that mean in plain English? It means that it will NOT play HD-DVD's as a true HD-DVD player will, but it will convert the standard DVD output signal to one of HD quality. What this means is if you have any HD-DVD's sitting around and you want to play them using this piece of equipment, you will be heartily disappointed, as I was. If you look around at other ads for this type of player, you will see that the REPUTABLE manufacturers/dealers will call this item what it really is: an Upconverting DVD player. While I realize that HD-DVD is an obsolete technology, and Blue-Ray is what's out there, there are still some of us that have HD-DVD discs that we would like to be able to view, and the misleading claims of the manufacturers or dealers do no proper service to anyone, least of all themselves. I will think twice (at least) before considering purchasing ANYTHING from the Philips company ever again, and will have no compunction about sharing my experience with all and sundry - beware of misleading descriptions.
