Indepth examination of mis-management on wildland fire, that resulted in ..
Been there and have experience western wild fires for 32 years with the US Forest Service. This is a real effort to understand this specific incident(I still call them fires) and fire suppression in general. It is readable and I believe very responsible reporting. A must read for anyone interested in this subject. I read the actual report on this incident and it was tragic. The line people were really let down by the local managers. Red flag warnings were not passed down to the crews, limited cooperation in the initial stages. A must read for all fire going folks.

The Forest Ranger Who Could
First it caught my interest because the photography on the cover I took in Morris Meadows of two good friends. Not sure how the author selected that photo. The book is a composite of many early Forest Rangers and their experiences. I would highly recommend the book to those interested in the early years of the Forest Service. The story plot is a little weak but the ventures and incidents are "true and have the correct ring to them". I retired from the Forest Service with 32 years of service and enjoyed many a long ride when the mules wore diamonds on their backs. Jim
