The original instrument build quality and workmanship was nothing less than supurb. When I purchased this vwell used older instrument it was not quite as described. The eyepieces were listed as 10X but were in fact 15X. This was great for me, but technically not as described. The focus was smooth. the eyepiece seperation adjustment was smooth, but stiff. The zoom knob was completely frozen. I had to overhaul the zoom mecnanism. Fortunately there were no plastic parts to be found and as such no internal broken plastic parts. The old lubricant had dried out and glued everything solid. With a few hours of work with a few hundred q-tips and 99.998% pure scientific grade alcohol, lighter fluid, and lens cleaner, I removed the old lubricants and replaced it with high quality silicone grease. The zoom is now smooth and the instrument works flawlessly. It is really a fantastic instrument and well worth the effort to get an old one fully operational again. I use it for inspecting very fine hand SMT soldering among many other things.
